The Best You Can Is Good Enough 4

Well, the good news: We won for best talk show! Ellen even gave a shout out to those of us watching the feed at the studio (who were all going apeshit). That was fucking cool.

The bad news: Ellen got hosed for best host (Wayne Brady won). We all were pretty disappointed and/or pissed.

I got in my car to come home after watching the feed, and the first song that came on in my car was Radiohead’s “Optimistic”. Most of the lyrics don’t make much sense, but the part that struck me was:

You can try the best you can

If you try the best you can

The best you can is good enough.

And that’s true. It is, of course, an honor to be nominated, and it’s unbelievable to win. But the thing is, if you’re working your fucking ass off to create something good, the best you can is good enough. And everybody at the show works themselves into the ground to make it the best damn show we can.

And that is your inspirational pap for this evening. I’m going to go get drunk and watch cartoons.

Well, if the show wins but not the host, that means YOU guys won the Emmy, and she’s just a big loser. 🙂

Wasn’t Wayne Brady’s show cancelled? Like, a long time ago?

Hmmm. Maybe Wayne got bonus points for the Dave Chapelle show.

Wayne’s show was cancelled in about December, but when you’re cancelled, you have to finish out your season (basically, through May). So he was still eligible. Theoretically, so was Sharon Osbourne. But she sucked enough to not even get nominated.

I will admit, I just about died at that Chapelle’s show thing. That was so, so funny. “So you think I make Bryant Gumbel look like Malcom X now, bitch?”
