There are many things that suck about working on Labor day. Primary among them is the irony, followed shortly by the people who tease you with beach plans.
But there is one very nice benefit: There is absolutely no traffic.
I have never seen the 405 as empty as it was this morning, even at 3am on a weeknight. I went 85 the entire way to work and got door to door in 20 minutes flat.
It was really, really fun. Alas, there will be no g-force defying commute tomorrow. Everyone will be back, and the 405 will be back to a crawl.
But at least I can take solace in the schadenfreude that everyone else has to go to work, too. No more of this “We’re going to the beach, see ya!” shit.
